In the past, industrial agriculture, smart greenhouses, or other smart projects used Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) as the main control unit to manage the operation of machines and electromechanical processes. For example, a SCADA system is designed to collect data from sensors and devices, monitor the status of the system and processes, and analyze the data in real time via an OPC server to create an interface between the SCADA and the PLC. This system works well, is stable, and reliable. However, remote video surveillance systems for industrial SCADA require high investment and complex maintenance, which requires experts to develop. The advent of IoT and the cloud is a trend that is quickly gaining attention, as users can access the system remotely via smartphones or web applications.
The dashboard has an attractive design, is easy to use, and has a low development cost. For these reasons, IoT has been widely used for industrial agriculture, smart greenhouses, or other smart projects. It is not designed with a serial communication system such as RS485 to connect between devices. There are few communication options with external devices and it does not support 24Vdc power supply.
